DOROTHY MJ FERRERIA rose from the ranks, first as guest demonstrator for baking and chocolate candy making at the Maya Kitchens, then as the school directress of her very own cooking school called DOROTHY’S COOKING SCHOOL. An A.B. Communication Arts Graduate of Ateneo de Manila, she first worked in a bank as a public relations and advertising assistant before pursuing a serious career in the culinary arts.

She took chocolate candy making and cake decorating courses in cooking schools abroad such as the prestigious Wilton School of Cake Decorating and Confectionery Art in Woodridge, Illinois, U.S.A. as well as in the U.F. M. Cooking School in Bangkok, specializing in Thai cuisine. As a budding cook and baker she took her first cooking lesson locally at the age of 10 with a neighbor, then with Sylvia Reynoso Gala, Rory Subida of Maya Kitchens and finally with the late Dexter Rebolledo of Dexter’s Bakeshop.

From January 1996 to November 1997 she was tapped by F.D. Ventures Inc., the producers of a popular cooking show on television, Lasang Pinoy Atbp. to be a regular demonstrator. She handled popular segments together with C.B. Garrucho which were enthusiastically sponsored by various food companies such as Nestle Phils. for the Carnation Evap and Condensed Milk Portions and San Miguel Food Group for the Anchor Butter, Magnolia Cream Cheese and Quickmelt portions.

At present she is busy doing demos in malls and other venues aside from a cookbook project with Hinge Inquirer Publications as recipe tester. She has re-launched herself in December 2003 as a traveling cooking school offering classes in the provinces for a wider reach of service and brand awareness of the products she is endorsing. The school is supported by various food and food related companies.

She used to be a columnist of Food Magazine in a column entitled Kitchen Notes (formerly known as Desserts 101) and is a cookbook author of several best selling cookbooks such as Dorothy’s Cooking School Cookbook Volumes 1 and 2 and From Dorothy’s Kitchen. She has just recently joined Appetite Magazine, her column will be coming out in the August 2008 issue.
